BENEFITING: Veterans For Peace Inc
Mobile Veteran Outreach is a combined project of three nonprofits: SideWalk, G.I. Voice, and Veterans For Peace #109 to assist homeless veterans in applying for their veteran benefits for which they are entitled. These benefits can be used to obtain housing/shelter. The motorhome will enable our accredited VA claims agents to conveniently reach out to homeless veterans wherever they can be found. We are seeking funds to repair and outfit the donated 1992 Four Winds motorhome to become a “Veteran Outreach” mobile platform. Veterans are a large proportion of the homeless population in Thurston County. Many cannot easily access resource centers if they know where they are. This will contribute to reducing veteran homelessness. Our two independent accredited VA claims agents volunteer at SideWalk, a homeless advocacy nonprofit in Olympia, Washington. The motorhome can extend our assistance a much broader region with face to face services. The restored motorhome will need to be outfitted with WiFi and cellular capabilities to process veteran benefit applications. Since 2010, our claims agents have assisted several hundred veterans obtaining benefits. In many of these claims, veterans were previously denied benefits. We successfully helped some veterans who only submitted claims decades after their military service.
