Veteran Home Renovation Project
Organized by: Shane Duffy
EVENT DATE Nov 18, 2014
Veteran’s day is just around the corner, and this year I wanted to find a way to give back, so I partnered with VASH (Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing) and created THE VETERAN'S HOME RENOVATION PROJECT and I need YOUR help to "kick start" it off the ground in 21 days! Having a construction background, the expertise, and the man power to give back, I want to do a renovation for a veterans family.
MEET THE VETERAN:
Mr. McKnight is a Gulf War Veteran and a single father who lives in the Bronx, New York. He was homeless for 2 years and now has a full time job and a lot of drive and passion. His son is in high school and because of the hard wood floors he is having a hard time studying because there is no insulation and the sound from neighbors below is distracting him. My goal is to put carpeting in the apartment to help with insulation, renovate his room to make it more conducive to studying, maximize the space potential in the room, supply furniture for the living room and bedrooms, and to ultimately make this apartment feel like a home.
Being a war veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan myself, and having volunteered for programs such as the USO, Wounded Warriors, and habitat for humanity, I want to give back in my own special way this Veterans days, NOV 11, 2014, a way that affects not only the veteran but also their family.
100 percent of every dollar I raise goes directly to the material costs, delivery, and furnishings to renovate this room. I believe that in order to provide a lasting solution, this projects should be completed by professionals who have the skills and experience to provide quality workmanship.
I will begin with a review of their current living environment and their unique needs.
After I fully understand their needs and goals, I offer a plan to effectively renovate the desired space.
I have a team of pre-qualified professionals, including myself, who are tasked with effectively implementing the plan and are donating their time and expertise.
During the make over, I will continually monitor the progress and quality of work, and upon completion insure that the main focus on helping the veteran and their family has been successfully achieved.
I am donating my time and expertise to renovate a veterans home, however without monetary support to buy supplies I am limited to what I can do, so that is where you come in! This Veteran's day you can help by donating as littles as $1-$20 dollars (or more) and help me renovate a Veteran's home. I only have 21 days to reach my goal of $5,000 so please donate now.
Help me make this dream come true and imagine the difference when a veteran and their family can live in a home that offers them the things that we take for granted.
