BENEFITING: Veteran Resort-chapel
We are the Beaulieu family, Ken and Rebecca. Our mission is Battlefield to Farm fields. We are a 100% Disabled Veteran owned and operated. Ken joined the Navy in Sept. of 2008. As a Corpsman, he was deployed multiple times to many different countries. These deployments were stressful and Ken treated horrific injuries. He developed PTSD but went undiagnosed for several years. He also suffered a ship board injury that resulted in a Traumatic Brain Injury and eventually led to him having surgery to repair his shoulder. In 2015, he was medically retired and we began life outside of the military. Ken began looking for a new purpose. His injuries made it difficult for him to adjust to civilian life. Rebecca suggested starting a small garden in their backyard as a hobby. One garden and two chickens later, The Conservative Hippy Small Sustainable Farm was born. In 2016, we expanded with goats, chickens, ducks and turkeys. Ken contributed his healing to farming and became interested in teaching other veterans how to farm. We joined the Veteran Farmer Coalition and began to learn about the many programs offered to Veterans interested in farming. Today we are searching for people with similar interest in helping our Veterans heal and grow. We are excited to announce our partnership with Veterans Resort Chapel! Their mission is to provide a rent free tiny home to Homeless Combat Veterans. While residing at the VRC, Veterans will have the ability to receive services from the VA as well as local resources. Veterans Chapel Farm will provide job skill training in agriculture, college classes and workshops, as well as other skills to residents to help them discover ways to return to the workforce.
