Veterans Forever Soldiers

ONE is TOO MANY: One homeless veteran, one veteran struggling with post-traumatic stress, alcohol or substance abuse, or one veteran family left dysfunctional due to these factors is ONE TOO MANY. These are ongoing issues that plague a post-military society. But before they were soldiers, they were: our moms and dads; sons and daughters; good friends and neighbors. Together, we can do more. Hard Facts / Harsh Reality

  1. 1.2 million veterans used VA services in 2010.  Over 50% received mental health diagnoses
  2. In just one night, over 49,000 homeless veterans were counted.  How many were not counted?  1.5 million others at risk
  3. 67% veterans have served three or more years. PTSD increases with multiple deployments
  4. 76% veterans experience alcohol, drug or mental health problems
  5. More than 968,000 veterans ages 18 to 64 had been in poverty in 2010
  6. Among veterans, female and family homelessness are steadily increasing
  7. Veterans are far more at risk of becoming homeless than non-vets
