I am excited to inform you that I have recently been accepted to join a group of military veterans for the trip of a lifetime. On Veterans Day 2013, a group of able-bodied and disabled veterans like me will team up with members from the K2 Adventures Foundation and travel to Tanzania, Africa to work in an orphanage and climb Mt. Kilimanjaro. I am doing this trip for a number of reasons…I want to help bring awareness to the heroes of K2 Adventures Foundation that have generously offered to help all of us interested in climbing in memory of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country, and to connect with fellow veterans while personally bettering myself both physically and emotionally. The mission at K2 Adventures Foundation is to care for children, adults and families with special needs and or life changing medical circumstances by providing services, support and funds that will be used for education and medical enrichment. K2 Adventures Foundation has already made a huge difference in the community, and continues their ongoing mission multiple times a year. The improvements in the quality of life that they have made to date are astonishing, and I cannot wait to take part in the organization and help make a difference myself.

My intentions are to travel to Tanzania, Africa with a group of individuals that are motivated by helping others, and remembering those who gave their lives in the name of freedom. We are using the outdoors to rehabilitate veterans and remember the fallen. We will donate our time in an orphanage located in Moshi, Tanzania followed by a memorial climb to the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro; the largest free-standing mountain in the world. The orphanage K2 Adventures Foundation supports consists of 74 blind, albino children that age in range from 5 years old to 17 years old. I truly believe that in order for us to fully understand how lucky we are to be parts of the greatest country on earth, we must donate our time in places outside of our borders. Can you imagine the look on the faces of the children when a group of soldiers show up to help them? I can.

My goal is to raise at least $10,000 to support my mission. This amount will cover my travel and mountain costs entirely; my time in the orphanage will be volunteered for the greater good of humanity. I am asking for your help to reach my goal. Please see the attached sponsorship packet for your consideration. To make a donation online, you can visit or the K2 Adventures Foundation website and click the link “EVENTS” and go to “Veterans to the Summit.” You can use my name when making the donation. K2 Adventures Foundation is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization and their federal ID # is 27-1302780. Any amount you are able to donate is tax deductible.

In closing, I appreciate you taking the time to review my request, and your support is appreciated more than words can describe. I ask that you keep me in your prayers while I embark on this journey, and assist those who are not as fortunate as us. It has been a long time since I have been a part of something so big and I am excited about the possibilities. I firmly believe that everything happens for a reason, and that my purpose here on earth is not self-centered, but giving and kind. I cannot wait to return and tell you all about my expedition. I look forward to speaking with you soon.

Best Regards,

Joshua Hollingsworth
