BENEFITING: VISION HEALTH INTERNATIONAL
Vision Health International's mission is to restore the gift of sight to people who otherwise have limited access to eye-care. In order to do that, VHI relies upon the generosity of qualified ophthalmologists, optometrists, nurses, and surgical technologists.
Nurses provide assistance in and out of the OR, as well as run the post-operation room. Needless to say, VHI's programs would be impossible without them.
Programs typically run for a week, and volunteers pay a participation fee and their own airfare to go. As a result, nurses can have difficulties managing the financial burden of these trips.
To address this problem and ensure VHI has the best volunteers available, the organization has raised funds specifically for nurses to ease the financial burden.
With donations from supporters across the country, and the David P. Honey Charitable Fund, VHI has given scholarships to 21 qualified volunteers in the past 2 years.
At the end of 2014, VHI will have completed its busiest year, and thus will require more volunteers to help accomplish our goal of restoring the gift of sight. The nurse scholarship will allow amazing nurse volunteers to provide the quality eye-care (free-of-charge) to people around the world.
