BENEFITING: Victims Information Bureau of Suffolk, Inc.
ORGANIZER: Victims Information Bureau of Suffolk, Inc.
I've worked for this agency for about two months now, and in that short time I've realized what an important place this is. It is beyond me how this agency is not a general household name throughout the Island. I see first hand each and every day how the work we do here affects the lives of women, men and families.
My role here is a victim advocate and mainly that means that I assist domestic violence victims through the criminal justice process in an attempt to find them some legal remedy to the abuse that they've suffered. The abuse I've had the misfortune of seeing has come in all forms, to the general public some cases may seem "bearable" and they range all the way to downright devastating and horrendous abuse; fortunately I've had the pleasure of also seeing the end result, which is often relief for these victims. When we help a victim, we feel the sense of renewal from them, their world has been restored to normal and that is why I love working at VIBS.
For more about the company itself, below is the history and agency mission, but I hope that you will help us to raise money for a chance to win our agency a huge grant to help continue our efforts to combat violence against women and families in this county, every dollar counts. Thank you all.

VIBS Family Violence and Rape Crisis Center was established in 1976 Victims Information Bureau of Suffolk (VIBS) has been a pioneer in the domestic violence and rape crisis movements.
Over the past 40 years, we have been providing counseling and advocacy to victims, and their families, of domestic violence and rape/sexual assault.
Or mission is to assist adult and child survivors of domestic violence, rape, sexual assault and trafficking; to prevent the incidence of these crimes through education and services; and to raise community awareness of the need for justice and compassion for victims.
This year, VIBS will provide services to over 7,000 survivors in Suffolk County, New York.
VIBS provides services that empower survivors of violence and promote dignity, self-sufficiency and safety. VIBS is the sole non-residential domestic violence service agency and rape crisis service in Suffolk County.
VIBS runs the SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners) units, the only rape crisis centers in Suffolk County, which are located at Good Samaritan Hospital, Peconic Bay Medical Center and Stony Brook University Medical Center. We have nurses on call that are dispatched to the hospital that the victim is referred to and we have Rape Crisis Counselor there to help with their immediate well-being and any other procedural issues that may arise.
