BENEFITING: SANCTUARY FOR SENIOR DOGS
Itawamba County in Mississippi does not have an animal shelter. Many homeless dogs found along the roadsides have been brought to Vicki's farm where she and her husband care for them. She has them spayed or neutered, given shots, treated for illness or injury, and tries to get them adopted. The April 2014 tornado that hit Tupelo, Mississippi also hit her farm. The two year old, hundred foot shed she sheltered most dogs in was destroyed along with the dog pens and dog houses. The 26 dogs in the shed all survived, although a few were injured. Now she is having to double up dogs in makeshift pens and in the big barn that survived the storm. She desperately needs to get the shed rebuilt before winter rains and cold weather arrive. Although she had all the insurance on outbuildings her company would allow her, it was only enough to repair the big barn, replace dog houses, repair some pen panels, and buy tin sheets to put over the top of the outside pens. Rebuilding the shed will be $15,000.
