Help Send Me to Speak at a National Conference!
Organized by: Victoria W
I've been chosen to present a workshop at The 2015 Alternatives Conference! My workshop topic: incorporating spiritual practices into a mental health wellness and recovery plan. Check out the video at the left to learn more about this conference and what I hope to contribute to the event.
In order to attend the conference and share my ideas, I need your financial support.
Alternatives is a largely grassroots conference comprised of people wanting to transform the mental health care system. Presenters give of our time and expertise as a service, and receive no compensation.
I need to cover the costs of travel from Minneapolis to Memphis, hotel, and the conference registration fee. [The rough cost break-down: registration: $375; hotel $500+; airfare: $400+; miscellaneous costs: $150 (meals not covered at conference, printing expenses for handouts, tips, transit to and from airport, etc)]
My current income does not provide enough funding to make this trip possible.
I need you, my community of family, friends, activists, people of faith, and people who want a transformation of mental health care to lend me a hand.
My goal is $1200 by September 20. If I can get 25 people to donate $25 each, I'm over halfway there! Please, donate whatever amount you can and make this trip a reality for me.
Other ways you can help:
- Donate frequent flyer miles
- Tell others about this fundraiser!
--- UPDATE --- 8/24/2105
I got word today that my second workshop proposal was accepted--I will now be giving two presentations at the conference! One is geared toward people who, for whatever reason, are not connected to a faith community but would like to incorporate spirituality into their mental wellness plan. The second workshop focuses on how faith communities approach mental health (in good and not-so-good ways), and explores ways to create more sensitivity and understanding of mental health issues in religious settings. I think it's important to talk about both individual transformation and community transformation in addressing mental health. Your donations are helping make that happen. Thank you for helping me reach a quarter of my fundraising goal!
