Victor's Autistic and Artistic Special Education Program
Organized by: Marian Muyot
My name is Marian 38 years old, a teacher from the Philippines. I have 4 kids and my eldest has autism. His name is Victor C. Muyot , a 12 year old boy now. He was diagnosed when he was 4 years old, since then he is sent to different Special Education Schools here and therapy like Speech Therapy and Occupational Therapy for his intervention. He looks very normal but he thinks like a 4 year old boy. He still cannot utter sentences and shows tantrums when hears unusual noises. Eventhough he has autism he is very good in making artworks/drawings. He has started making images at 2 years old. I must admit that having this kind of disability in the Philippines is really difficult as our government doesn’t have comprehensive program to help student with disabilities especially with autism which is very difficult to handle. It is very expensive sending him to a private school that offers good facilities and program that can handle this kind of students properly plus he needs therapy 2x or 3x a week to address his speech and behavior problems. I am just a public school teacher here and unfortunately my husband lost his job almost two years ago and cannot earn much to provide all our needs.I used to have business that I gave up when i got pregnant with my youngest 2 years ago due to delicate situation. So when my husband lost his job I had to loan for me to be able to support all our needs such as special education of my eldest and other kids which go to a public school here. Now since I am in so much debts and still needs to sustain the needs of my other children, ages 8,4, and 1 year old plus paying a lot. I am like drowning and do not know what to do anymore. I just want to make sure that all my kids needs are provided and my eldest which I am very afraid of because his bad behavior/attitude will get worse and his learning will stop if he will be pulled out from school and therapy. He has been showing good performance in school in fact he was awarded as “Best in Academics” in 2014 when he graduated in Preschool and coping very well now with his lessons as Level 2 at Philippine Christian University Manila. He was awarded as “ Best in Art” and “Most Improved in Socialization” . I have started to sell his artwork in shirt here but still isnt enough to support all our needs as we need to pay debts, bills, living expenses etc . I am looking for sponsors who can help us support his special education and therapy that he will be needing almost all his life. As a mother, I would do everything for him to be part of the community as a normal person. I hope and pray that you can consider sponsoring my son and can shoulder his therapy which is very costly. Please help us.
