EVENT: 2015 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 20, 2015
It's hard to imagine anything more exciting for a runner than participating in the Boston Marathon, but being able to run this historic race on behalf of my incredible agency is truly an honor.
As Victory Programs' Communications Manager, I have the honor of being part of an agency that helps 2,600 individuals and families every year - folks dealing wtih homelessness, drug and alcohol addicition and chronic illnesses like HIV/AIDS. We work tirelessly to help our clients get back on their feet and live the healthy and productive lives we know they're capable of.
Like training for a marathon, our clients have to work hard, stay disciplined, have faith in themselves and never, ever give up. I cannot wait to run those 26.2 miles in tribute to the hard work they put into buildiing their futures.
A Little Bit About Me
By day, I work in communications - writing press releases, maintaining our website, administering our social media accounts and basically telling the world how amazing Victory Programs is.
By night, I am a runner and a devoted cat mom but since this about me raising money for running the Boston Marathon, I'll stick with running part of my life.
One beautiful October morning in 2013, I decided I didn't want to go to the gym - it was just too nice outside. I decided, instead, to see what all the fuss about this whole running thing was about...3 miles later I was hooked. Since that October morning, I've run eight 5ks, one 4 miler, two 5 milers, a 10k, a half marathon and a trail run. Every time I took on a new length race, I saw it as an opportunity to push myself to do something I'd never done before. I can't believe as I sit here now, that my next big race will be running Boston!
I'm exciting to share my journey with you both in my training and all of the amazing things that happen at Victory Programs. I've started a blog - Lori Runs Boston - to chronicle my race training and fundraising efforts - so I hope you'll follow along. I hope to hold some fun raffles, contests and special events between now and race day to raise funds for my amazing agency so please stay tuned!
You can also keep up with me on Twitter and Instagram.
Thank you for supporting me, Team Victory and Victory Programs!

Victory Programs is thrilled to be an official 2015 Boston Marathon John Hancock Non-Profit Program Partner!
In September, we were notified by John Hancock, the landmark sponsor of the Boston Marathon, that Team Victory would receive four Marathon bib numbers through its Non-Profit Program that distributes bibs to deserving charities from across the Commonwealth.
2015 is a special year for Victory Programs as it marks 40 years of opening doors to hope, health and housing for individuals and families in our community facing homelessness, substance use disorders, mental health issues and chronic diseases like HIV/AIDS.
We are deeply grateful to John Hancock for its invaluable support, to the members of Team Victory for training, fundraising and ultimately running Boston's premiere marathon and to all of our donors for helping Victory Programs continue to open doors for the men, women and children in our community who need it most.
Thank you from the staff, board and clients of Victory Programs!
