For more than a decade, The Village Green has served as the green heart of the mountain community of Cashiers, North Carolina. These 12.5 acres of privately held park land provide a gathering, recreational, and event space open to the public to enhance the quality of life for residents and visitors to the area alike.
On any given day, the park is:
Filled with people walking dogs or enjoying the natural beauty of the meandering pathways, friends sharing lunch, and children frolicking on the expansive playground;
Serving as the host location for more than 100 planned events each year, including public large group civic and religious observances and services as well as more private festive occasions for individuals such as family reunions, picnics, and cultural gatherings;
Providing a popular venue for milestone moments in family life, such as birthday parties and weddings;
Planning and Hosting national and local holiday celebrations organized and coordinated by The Village Green staff; sometimes coming to the rescue of local traditions - notably in 2013, when budget cuts threatened community Independence Day Weekend festivities, The Village Green ensured that Cashiers had a public fireworks display.
The Village Green embraces and actively supports the arts and cultural events:
Featuring permanent outdoor sculptures along with a biennial sculpture exhibition;
In the summer months, presenting a series of educational nature lectures highlighting local flora and fauna as subject matter;
Acting as the venue for free community outdoor concerts in the warm weather season
Additionally hosting several community festivals featuring local organizations and artists throughout the year. In 2013, The Village Green welcomed more than 2,000 people during each of these large community events.
The Village Green continues to grow and serve the community, always seeking ways to expand its opportunities to preserve the legacy of Cashiers as part of its continuing mission to provide excellence in civic, spiritual, recreational, educational and cultural activities. The Village Green is often regarded as a mountain version of New York's Central Park in its breadth of activities and opportunities, lacking only a zoo with bars. Here the wildlife roams freely!
