I am raising money for VillageReach for my tzedakah project for my bat mitzvah. VillageReach distributes vaccines and medical supplies to rural areas of Africa and South Asia. They teach community members how to run these things so eventually they will not need to depend on the program.
The charity ratings organization, GiveWell, gave VillageReach a gold rating, one of only two awarded, for their efficiency and innovation, as well as their track record and impact. They estimate that it takes as little as $545 donated to VillageReach to save the life of one child, all costs included. See their detailed analysis of VillageReach's past pilot projects in Mozambique and on-going projects on http://www.givewell.org/international/top-charities/villagereach.
