BENEFITING: JUNIOR LEAGUE OF PORTLAND OREGON INC
EVENT DATE: Oct 22, 2011
Thank you to everyone who volunteered, donated and fundraised for JLP’s 2nd Annual Volunteer in Portland Day this past Saturday, October 22. It was a HUGE success! Forty-five volunteers assembled at CRN to tackle three projects – one of them a massive painting job. Great job!
A special thank you to the Marriott Waterfront hotel’s sales team, which pitched in alongside Junior League members and friends.
Here are some of the tasks volunteers accomplished at Children’s Relief Nursery:
- Over 40 volunteers painted 16,000 square feet of walls. This involved moving furniture, removing pictures hung on the walls and taping walls… and then putting it all back!
- Cleaned and disinfected 3 offices, 1 lunch room, 8 classrooms & 15,000 toy pieces
- Cleaned and scrubbed the outdoor play area, including hand-scrubbing 50 larger toys and structures
- Cleaned and “winterized” the garden·
- Cleaned the floors
- Shredded documents for 3.5 hours
We made it to our $25,000 fundraising goal! Thank you to everyone who donated and fundraised to support us!
This funding supports all of JLP’s community programs throughout the year. We’re accepting VIP Day donations through November 30 by donating here or by sending a check to JLP.
Special thank you’s to all Junior League of Portland members and their family and friends who donated or loaned tools and materials for this project.
And, thank you again to all of our corporate donors: City of Portland’s Environmental Services division, Compass Coffee, East Burn grill, Fred Meyer, Home Depot Foundation, Lowe’s, North Portland Tool Library, Pacifiwild Catering, Widmer and Young’s Market.
We look forward to seeing you all at the next Volunteer in Portland Day in 2012!
About Children’s Relief Nursery
Children's Relief Nursery's (CRN) mission is to keep children safe and families strong and to end abuse and neglect in our community. Currently, we serve nearly 200 families through our Northside and Eastside sites.
CRN's program is based on the nationally successful Relief Nursery model, providing intensive child and family interventions to prevent child abuse and provide support and encouragement to parents with challenging life circumstances. The model includes center-based therapeutic classes and respite child care, early parent education, support for positive and nurturing parent / child interactions and regular home visits.
Our program is voluntary. Parents or caregivers with challenging life circumstances and multiple risk factors are invited to participate in the services CRN provides. Qualifying families are under significant stress and in need of support, intervention and respite services. CRN families frequently live below the poverty line, reside in North Portland and have at least one child below the age of four. All program services are offered in both English and Spanish.
CRN is located at 8425 N Lombard Street, Portland, OR97203.
