About Children's Relief Nursery
Children's Relief Nursery's (CRN) mission is to keep children safe and families strong and to end abuse and neglect in our community. Currently, we serve nearly 200 families through our Northside and Eastside sites.
CRN's program is based on the nationally successful Relief Nursery model, providing intensive child and family interventions to prevent child abuse and provide support and encouragement to parents with challenging life circumstances. The model includes center-based therapeutic classes and respite child care, early parent education, support for positive and nurturing parent / child interactions and regular home visits.
Our program is voluntary. Parents or caregivers with challenging life circumstances and multiple risk factors are invited to participate in the services CRN provides. Qualifying families are under significant stress and in need of support, intervention and respite services. CRN families frequently live below the poverty line, reside in North Portlandand have at least one child below the age of four. All program services are offered in both English and Spanish.
CRN is located at 8425 N Lombard Street, Portland, Oregon 97203

2011 VIP Day Projects
A NEW PROJECT (CLASSROOM PAINTING) ADDED ON 9/23!! PLEASE READ BELOW!
Volunteers will participate in three projects at CRN: General grounds beautification and play toys cleaning and organizing of donated items.
Number of Volunteers Requested: 36 – see breakdown of duties below.
12 volunteers for toy cleaning, grounds beautification & donated
items organization +
24 “physically fit” volunteers for painting classrooms.
Room painting has just been added (as of 9/23) to the list of projects we will complete at CRN. They are requesting 24 “physically fit” volunteers for the painting, as some furniture will have to be moved, ladders will be used for painting, etc. Painting related in-kind donations have been added in the section below, so please see if you might be able to provide any painting supplies – they don’t have to be new.
All of the projects are tasks that take CRN’s clinical and classroom staff away from from their kids and the cases they manage. Presenting a clean and tidy facility is of the utmost importance, as we try to reflect the positive behaviors we teach to our at-risk families. Junior Leagues help would be most appreciated in these efforts.
If you'd like to bring along friends to volunteer, please email VIPDay@juniorleagueofportland.org with their names, email addresses, T-shirt sizes and project they're volunteering for to register them. We will be confirming volunteer registrations via email starting October 7.
In-Kind Donation Requests:
