EVENT DATE: JAN 1, 2014 - FEB 1, 2014
To kick off National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month in the United States, take the first step in the new year and make a stand to fight human trafficking by running or walking a virtual 5k race wherever you are on New Year's Day. For more of a challenge and to help us spread awareness during the entire month, sign up for the January mileage challenge to see how many miles you can run or walk during the month to help survivors and bring awareness to human trafficking.
***NEW*** We expanding the virtual 5k to last the entire month of January. Run or walk your virtual 5k anytime during the month.
Free To Run Foundation, through fiscal sponsor First United Methodist Church, is the organizer of the event, and will distribute the event proceeds to Somaly Mam Foundation and Make a Stand Foundation.
After you finish your virtual 5k, you will be able to upload your time and be listed with other participants on the final results. January Challenge participants can keep track of their miles on their fundraising page, but after the close of the month, they will be able to submit their total miles online.
For more information about Free To Run, go to http://www.freetorunfoundation.org. More details about the virtual race, including fundraising and team incentives, are located at http://www.freetorunfoundation.org/virtualrace. The participant who raises the most funds (either for the Somaly Mam team or for an unaffiliated team) will run a video chat with activists/actresses Shay Mitchell and AnnaLynne McCord.
