BENEFITING: La Casa Norte
EVENT DATE: Sep 07, 2014
THE STORY:
In Chicago, 22% of people are foreign born. Latinos are the largest proportion of that group and make up almost 30% of the entire population. As providers of immigration services, we are helping people to make America their home, but not all foreign nationals have the luxury of an actual home.
La Casa Norte (LCN) is an organization that is the largest provider of homeless services to Latino families and youths.
In the past 10 years, LCN has supported more than 20,000 homeless and at-risk individuals in Chicago. Solid Ground is Chicago’s first bilingual supportive housing program for homeless youths aged 16-21. Solid Ground provides life skills, educational resources, mentoring, employment services and therapy.
VISANOW would have the opportunity to sponsor beds in one of several LCN facilities. Through our assistance, young homeless Latinos will not only have a safe place to sleep, but also the ability to improve their lives.
When: September 7, 2014 Chicago Half Marathon and 5K
Why: VISANOW employees will have the ability to engage in a healthy activity while also changing the lives of young homeless Latinos.
Added bonus: FUN RUNS! There is the option of fun runs scheduled with several of the youths who participate in Solid Ground whose lives will be touched and changed by our involvement.
