Manufacturing really is a cool industry!!! But we are facing a huge gap in skilled workers, because many do not understand what the industry really looks like today. We know that our approach works – more than half of those who visited us over the past 18 months are now thinking about pursuing education and careers in the manufacturing sector. But that’s only the start. We need to get more individuals interested in this industry so that we can build a strong pipeline for our manufacturers. The best way we found to do this is through our mobile manufacturing experience. VCSC has a mobile classroom, equipped with tools like CNC controls, robotics, and additive manufacturing, that we take around the country to inform visitors of what the industry looks like today. We partner with the local communities to learn what manufacturers need in the region, what educational programs may already be in existence, and build a tailored approach to support what already exists. But it’s not cheap to equip and deploy our mobile unit. On average, it costs us $10,000 for 5 days in one location. That includes the cost of the fuel, the driver, and all those who run the classroom. There are also several other tools that we want to get to continually improve the experience, including a virtual welding system, a 3D chocolate printer, a laser cutter, and a mini mill and lathe. Every dollar counts. Your donation will help us further equip the trailer and keep us moving!
