Vitamins and toys to Vietnamese orphanage:
On December 26th, I will fly to Vietnam to spend four weeks with a travel seminar through the Climate Change Studies Department at the University of Montana. I have already purchased 20 small toys suitable for young kids (ages 0-5) for a local orphanage which serves 40 little tykes in that age group. I had also hoped to load up an entire (second) bag with children´s vitamins, as they are in short supply according to a faculty member of mine who is spending her sabbatical year doing volunteer work in the country.
However, my money fell short of allowing me to work such magic on my own. So I started looking around to see how I might tap into a nonprofit that is already doing good work in the region, and how I might connect some of you, my friends, family, acquaintances, and fellow fundraisers, with bringing gifts to disadvantaged Vietnamese children and families.
I am seeking your financial contribution to the charity Children of Vietnam (http://www.childrenofvietnam.org/) which works to improve kids´ lives by providing critical resources in the areas of food, medicine, housing, and education.
$750 pays for combination support for a family including, housing, nutrition, healthcare, child school fees & microloan. Let´s raise that $750 together and sponsor a Vietnamese family (vitamins included)! Every little bit helps.
I realize this fundraiser is an extremely last-minute effort, but am wholly optimistic, grateful for any funds that may reach me in the next week. I may extend the length of the fudraiser beyond December 26th as I will only be directly responsible for the delivery of the toys I have already bought – Children of Vietnam can continue to receive your support beyond my departure date.
The children of Vietnam thank you! :)
