HELP VISUALLY IMPAIRED VETERAN RACE AT THE US NAT. CHAMPS!
Organized by: Chester and Reuben
"Triumphant in the face of adversity" - Chester Triplett
Please help visually impaired Para-cyclist Chester Triplett (with Reuben Howden, sighted tandem pilot) raise funds for travel expenses and team clothing to compete in the US Para-cycling Road National Championships in Madison, WI this July!
35 year old Chester Triplett was raised between Charlotte and Mooresville, NC. Between 1998-2001, Chester served on active duty as a 13bravo cannon crew-member in field artillery at Fort Sill, OK.
Chester began losing his sight about 14 years ago and now has no central vision. Tasks like facial recognition, reading, or anything that requires visual acuity is impossible for him.
Chester began cycling in 2005 and discovered the Paralympic division in 2009 while continuing to learn new adaptive skills at the VA's blind rehabilitation center in Birmingham, AB. Chester's skills as a tandem stoker (person on the back of the tandem) have developed rapidly. His most recent major results include;
2012: bronze medal in Road time-trial at Para Road National championships
2012: National champion in the 4k Pursuit and 9th place in the 1k individual time-trial at the UCI Para Track World Championships
2013: silver medal in road time-trial at Para Road National championships
2013: silver medal in 4k pursuit at Para Track National championships
2014: 3rd place in a national level Para road time-trial with current tandem pilot, Reuben Howden
Chester's current goal is to race at the US National Para-Cycling Road Championships in July this year and compete against the country's top tandem teams!
43 year old Reuben Howden has been training and racing a bike since the mid-1980's, which included several solo time-trial wins in Britain, his home country. Reuben also raced as a tandem stoker several years ago. He and his pilot came close to breaking a time tiral course record after stopping to fix the tandem chain! This year, Reuben won his first race of the season and has scored an age group win and a close 2nd place in other races.
Also this year, Reuben has been lucky enough to pilot Chester's tandem and as a team they have been fast, averaging 28.5mph in their first race together! Their recent 3rd place in a National level Para-cycling time-trial shows they are competitive! Riding with Chester has given Reuben the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to Chester achieving his Para-cycling goals.
Please help Chester and Reuben achieve their goals!! Chester and Reuben are training hard and they are already in great shape for the National Para-cycling Championships in July!!
Thank you in advance for all donations.
