As those close to me know, I'm not really one to celebrate my birthday, but last year I had a change of heart. I decided to try something different and to utilize my birthday to do some good. And I'm so thankful that I did. Not only did I get to help an amazing cause, I reconnected with so many old friends who generously supported my fundraiser. It reminded how important the relationships we make mean, and that when we need it, we can count on those same relationships to help us if we are just willing to ask for help.
As December approached again this year, I realized that I wanted to use my birthday as an opportunity to give back once again. 2015 has taken my breath away, both positively and negatively. It has tested my will more than any other period in my life. Running your own company is even more humbling than people describe! That said, it has been a great pleasure and privilege to build something I truly love and believe in. Plus, my amazing family, and an incredible set of friends around, I feel like I've definitely take more than I've given.
So in an effort to do my part, and to help make the world just a little better, I'm excited to support an incredible cause that I truly believe in - Shanti Bhavan. Shanti Bhavan (SB) is a school, started by my family to provide a world class education to children of underprivileged backgrounds. SB supports these kids from pre-school to high-school, helps pay for their college education, and provides a safe, healthy environment to live in while at SB. After 20 years of Shanti Bhavan our children are becoming leaders in their community and getting jobs at some of the best companies in the world, like Ernst & Young, Mercedes Benz, Goldman Sachs, and more. And last year one of our 8th graders won the Women of the Year award from Glamour Magazine! Not to mention, they've grown up to become good people who inspire me to be a good human.
This year, like last, I'm going to use my age as my marker. I'm hoping to raise $33 each from 100 of my friends. Which is perfect because $3300 is approximately how much is needed to send one child to college for a year!
I know we all get asked to support various causes, but by making a small donation to Shanti Bhavan you'll be helping to give a college education to a child! How amazingly powerful is that?! And if $33 is too much, give what you can - $1, $10, $25, whatever.
Thank you so much for your love and support!
