Satish Chukka and his family currently live in Texas and hail from the South Indian port city of Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India. The coastal city, popularly known as Vizag and often called as the City of Destiny, boasts of a natural harbor, India’s first shipyard, two major ports (only city to do so in India), the first shore based Integrated Steel Plant in the country, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited’s one of the only two refineries in India, Eastern Naval Command of Indian Navy, Naval Science and Technological Laboratory (a DRDO Lab), Naval Dockyard and several heavy industries such as Coromandel fertilizers and Heavy Plates and Vessels Plant (formerly BHPV).
Despite the industrialization and urbanization, Vizag is known for its green and salubrious environs, lush beaches on the shores of Bay of Bengal, a terrific coastline, Buddhist sites, natural resources and the list goes on. The city is one of the fastest growing in Asia. However, Mother Nature had other plans for the city and the area. She decided to take away what she has endowed in the form of Hurricane Hudhud. The Category 4 hurricane (with its 200+ KMPH/ 130+ MPH wind gusts) made a landfall on Oct 12, 2014 and wreaked havoc on this beautiful city. The preparedness ensured minimal loss of lives but could not avert the enormous damage to the infrastructure and the greenery. The calamity has sucked the splendor out of the city in particular and the north coastal area in general.
The city and the adjoining coastal area are slowly limping back to normalcy and embarked on the uphill task of rebuilding and rebounding. Our support would aid the affected areas in reclaiming their past glory. In addition to your prayers, I request you help the cause financially and spread the word around so that your kith and kin can do the same. Anything will help.
This beautiful city and its brilliant people gave me so much and that means a lot to me. Please help me help my beloved city to beat the adversity! I want to do my part by matching your donations…100%! I intend to donate the proceeds to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for the benefit of the affected area.
Thank you for your valuable time and invaluable support. Don’t forget to spread the word!
