Vista Maria’s mission is to deliver innovative care, support, treatment and education to vulnerable youth so that they heal, believe in their worth, and build the skills needed to succeed. Founded in 1883, Vista Maria has a long history of healing the most abused, neglected and traumatized girls from communities throughout our state.
We are able to achieve our mission through an array of specialty residential treatment programs as well as community-based programs. Although there are times that a youth requires intensive and specialized mental health treatment and education, we also strive to end pervasive abuse and neglect through our community programs which include: education through two on-campus charter schools; general and treatment foster care; youth assistance programming; independent living; transition services; and after-school programming.
One of our recent program expansions include specialized treatment programming to meet the treatment and development needs of victims of human trafficking. The fact is, trafficking in Michigan is a problem. Information from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Polaris and the Michigan Commission on Human Trafficking reveal some disturbing truths:
- Michigan ranks in the top 5 states for sex trafficking activity.
- Michigan ranks in the top 3 states for internet solicitation for children.
- 1 of every 3 victims of sex trafficking are children.
In 2014, Vista Maria became the first licensed, contracted program to serve adolescent female victims of human trafficking. Our state of the art treatment housing and programming restore victimized girls and young women so that they can transform from victim to survivor to advocate.
Vista Maria is committed to providing hope and healing to girl victims of human trafficking from our own communities in southeastern Michigan.
Join us in support of stopping human trafficking of children in Michigan. Together, we can give children a great sense of safety where they can build trust, regain control over their lives and receive the support needed to help them rebuild their lives.
