Since 1998, Music of Remembrance (MOR) has remembered the Holocaust by performing music by composers who dared to create even in those darkest of times. The Holocaust’s legacy calls on us to honor the experience of all people who have been excluded or persecuted because of their nationality, ethnicity, faith, or sexuality.
This year, MOR turns its focus to stories that portray Japanese and Japanese American wartime experience – the detention of people of Japanese ancestry in American incarceration camps, and the horrors of the nuclear bombings. Music can reach people in ways that words alone cannot, and our concerts this year introduce new works that open our eyes and hearts to powerful narratives of those who endured the unbearable with strength and dignity.
What: Voices of Witness Campaign is a fundraiser to raise $15K for MOR’s 20th season fall concert, Snow Falls, on November 5th, 2017 at Benaroya Hall in Seattle, Washington.
When: September 5 – November 5, 2017
Why: Our fundraising goal of $15K will be used toward the performance fees for our world-class musicians. This represents only a small part of the overall cost of producing this concert, but it is the true core — allowing you to directly support superb musicians who pour their hearts into making a difference in the world through their art. With your help, we hope to surpass this goal, and expand our reach even further in our community and beyond.
As we’re reminded by events almost every day, the threat of nuclear war is not ancient history, and living up to our own ideals of human rights and social justice calls for constant vigilance. Our concert confronts these realities through the faces and stories of real people, brought vividly to life in music that nobody will forget. This is a concert that will make a difference.
Please help us make it happen.
