In the spring of 2015, a Nigerian non-profit, Gabasawa Women and Children Empowerment Initiative, introduced a small group of people in Colorado to the horrors of terrorism in Northeastern Nigeria. The immediacy of these Nigerians' situation was so compelling that Voices4Nigeria was established.
V4N's utmost goal is to give these displaced Nigerians hope by assuring them that there are people in the US who hear them and are responding to their crisis. Our aim is to:
- raise funds for food and medical supplies (especially for the orphaned children who are daily dying of disease and starvation).
- transport orphans out of the 25 IDP camps (Internally Displaced Persons) and to provide safe houses for these vulnerable children who are often kidnapped from the camps and sold to the sex and slave trades.
- reestablish educational opportunities (many children have been out of school since 2014).
- offer micro business opportunities to those displaced by the violence.
