THE STORY:

The American Corner in Qurghonteppa, Tajikistan has created two Volleyball teams. Our goal is to raise a total of 1,300 USD to provide our teams with uniforms.

Want to Donate? Great! We appreciate your help!

5 Dollar Donation = A Pair of Knee Pads. You'll be solely responsible for keeping one player's knees scratch-free!
10 Dollar Donation = A Pair of Sports Shoes. Thanks to you, that's one less barefoot player on the court!
15 Dollar Donation = A Jersery Shirt and Shorts. Now we're matching! Team moral is up and one Tajik kid has a uniform to be proud
of!
20 Dollar Donation = Sweatshirt and Sweatpants. Winters are cold here, but thanks to your donation, one player will be kept warm off and on the court!
50 Dollar Donation= The whole Shebang! Knee pads, shoes, shirt, shorts, sweatshirt, sweatpants! The entire uniform. You will receive a picture of your player decked out in his/her uniform. Pretty cool what you can do with 50 bucks, right?

Fundraising Campaign:
We have both a boy's team and a girl's team, with 13 players on each team, so a total of 26 players. It cost $50.00 to purchase a complete uniform for one player. This includes: a jersey shirt, jersey shorts, sweatpants, a zip-up sweatshirt, knee pads, and a pair of shoes. So, 26 uniforms at $50.00 each (26 x 50) brings us to our goal of 1,300.00 dollars. Donations of any size are greatly appreciated.

* The sweatpants and sweatshirt will be needed come winter. It snows here in Tajikistan and the gym where we practice does not have any glass in the windows.

Why Tajikistan? Why Volleyball?
Tajikistan is the poorest country in Central Asia. It was once part of the Soviet Union, but became independent in 1991 after the USSR collapsed. Since that time, the quality of life in Tajikistan has deteriorated. With an average income of $200.00 dollars a month, life for most Tajiks is challenging.
Organized sports in Tajikistan essentially do not exist. There are no organized Volleyball teams in Qurghonteppa, Tajikistan’s fourth largest city, While Volleyball is popular, most schools cannot afford to purchase the balls or nets needed to practice. By starting these two teams at the American Corner, we hope to lay the groundwork for the development of teams throughout Qurghonteppa. Each team will be training three days a week, for about 2 hours a day. In a few months, will be asking local schools and universities to organize teams against which we can compete. These competitions will serve to motivate the youth and their schools to organize volleyball teams. We also plan to play against organized teams outside of Qurghonteppa, setting up a foundation for inter-city competitions. Contingent upon future funding, we hope for the year to culminate in a volleyball tournament in Dushanbe, Tajikistan’s capital.
Our teams will also give 26 Tajiks the opportunity to be involved in a group activity. It is particularly important for our 13 girls. Women have few opportunities outside of marriage, and this will be a very empowering experience for them. Our teams will be very motivated to know that people in the U.S.A. have come together to support them here in Tajikistan.
