This week, I'll be leading a workshop called "How to Interview Like a Rockstar" at the Willie Mae Rock Camp For Girls, a non-profit music and mentoring program dedicated to the empowerment of girls and women.
The workshop will create a safe space allowing girls to speak their minds in the context of being interviewed by the media as a band. Additionally, the campers will learn basic interviewing skills, practicing vocal delivery and self-reflection in a band setting. "How to Interview Like a Rockstar" will encourage a diversity of thought and inspire other campers through dialogues about musical influences and role models.
The goal is to provide a real life experience to being in a band while helping campers inspire, educate, and encourage one another to talk about their aspirations as musicians and their influences. The workshops will also encourage critical thinking and allow practice for speaking to interviewers as they are vital to building confidence and self-esteem. Furthermore, this year's camp themes of Consensus, Leadership, & Cooperation will be applied at the workshop.
