Dear Family and Friends,
In mid to late July, I will be traveling to Greece to volunteer as a teacher at a refugee camp. The school was created, built and is run by the Armando Aid organisation under the direction and vision of an amazing women named Layhing Siu Munro.
In June 2016, there were an estimated 57,00 refugees in Greece who had to flee conflict in countries such as Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq. Armando Aid started the Oinofyta Community School which has approximately 200 students and relies entirely on volunteers to keep it running.
Armando Aid depends on a team of wonderful and skilled volunteers to teach the children English, literacy and math, as well as science, social skills, health education, art and music. The school is committed to ensuring that the children have access to quality learning. They have created an environment that provides routine and normality in a safe place while they are living in very difficult circumstance.
Each dollar that is donated will be matched ONE for ONE by the Give2Learn organisation. It is vital that these children and the adults of the community continue to receive education and opportunities to acquire skills to rebuild their lives.
The money raised will be used to support the living expenses of long term teaching volunteers and healthy food, books and school supplies for the children. Please see the links below to learn more about Armando Aid and The Oinofyta Community School.
Armando Aid is a UK registered charity (number 1166247)
