Backpacking Peru to Learn Organic Farming
Organized by: Dave DeNard
We (Emily & Dave) will be traveling to Peru during the end of the year. Our mission is to gain as much knowledge as possible about homesteading, organic farming, and sustainable building. To do so we will be volunteering / working on multiple homesteads and organic farms through a program known as WWOOF (Worldwide Opportunities on Organic Farms).
We will be living out of our backpacks from farm to farm, and camping out of a tent for the majority of the travels. By leaving our comfort zone for this time, we will be able to learn what we need to, and travel with the least amount of expense.
Our long term goals are to one day start a small organic farm. By traveling we'll be able not only to learn hands on but to search for possible regions to buy land. We are asking for your support to help us achieve a dream to live closer to mother nature and escape the rat race dissonance of modern society.
We both are working hard to achieve the financial means to go on this adventure. Emily is working at the Owosso Organics farm while Dave is doing lake maintence on Lake Manitou. We also operate a booth at the Owosso Farmers Market on Saturdays and an online store to raise more money selling our handcrafts. Emily crafts hemp & crystal jewlery and Dave carves spoons.
We have been practicing growing our own food here in Owosso. We have included photos of our current garden and photos of some of our hand crafts for sale. If you would like to help us out in another way, you can check out our online store at mysticalmakings.storenvy.com. All of our profits go directly to our savings for this trip. You can also just contact us personally if you'd like some cool handcrafts.
This quest will not be free since we will be exchanging work for education. We would greatly appreciate your help in this journey. Donations will go directly to plane & bus tickets, as well as food and travel gear. Thanks for reading and thanks for supporting!
Peace & Love
