I think you know that I've been on the Board of Directors of Voice of Witness for many years now. The work they do--publishing oral histories of human rights crises, giving voice to those who have lived through them, helping students and teachers read and understand the power of stories, and practice the art of collecting oral histories--this work is important, vital, and it changes lives.
Over the past five years, Voice of Witness has offered its services and resources for free to thousands of students and teachers around the U.S. who otherwise could not afford them. This would not be possible without the generous support of people like you.
With the Make History Campaign, the goal is to inspire more students—our next generation of leaders, teachers, history makers—to meaningfully engage with the world. We can achieve this by connecting them with important, unheard stories, and by empowering them to tell their own stories in their own voices.
For the end of 2015 I'm participating in a fundraiser to help support the education program of this important non-profit. I hope you'll join me in giving what you can. Any amount--small or large--makes a difference. $25 gets an oral history guidebook into the hands of a teacher. $50 makes a new lesson plan possible. $100 puts an audio recorder and a book in a student's hands. You can scroll through my photos to see not only Thurgood the cat sporting a VoW tshirt, but desciptions of what your money can do, and some of the VoW book titles.
The Voice of Witness Education Program’s mission is to transform the way students see the world and their place within it. Please help me meet my goal to help them! (I've set my goal here at $3000, but my secret goal is $5000--that would be 10% of the overall goal for this campaign!)
THANK YOU! xo Jill
