Every year tens of thousands of healthy and friendly pets are killed in Los Angeles animal shelters simply because they don't have a home. Spend a few hours at any Los Angeles dog shelter and you will witness people turning in their dogs - dogs of all shapes, sizes, ages and breeds - for a variety of reasons. Rarely is it any fault of the dog's, yet shelter dogs endure the unfair and unshakeable stigma that they are damaged goods, and as a result these dogs are put to sleep while the surrounding community continues to buy dogs from breeders and pet stores supporting puppy mills.
In 2009, Lesley Brog, a longtime animal lover and dog rescue volunteer, mustered up the courage to leave her comfortable pharmaceutical sales job and vowed to make as big of a dent as she could in this misconception and resulting shelter overcrowding crisis. Wags and Walks was born - Lesley began pulling one dog at a time and fostering in her own home.
Just a few short years later, Wags and Walks is now the fastest growing dog rescue organization in Los Angeles. The rescue more than tripled the number of dogs saved year over year from 2013 to 2014! However, Wags and Walks runs primarily off of donations and volunteers. As a result, the organization can only continue to grow and save more lives with our community's help - with your help.
Please consider making a donation to support Wags and Walks in our efforts to change the stigma associated with shelter dogs and, most importantly, save more lives! Together we can show the world that Rescue is the New Black.
