What is the Wailuku Elementary Fun Run Fundraiser?
This is our annual fundraiser where students are asked to collect donations that will benefit the school by providing funds for different programs and events that the school provides.
What is the Fun Run event?
The Fun Run event will be happening on Wednesday November 26th, 2014. After working so hard to collect donations, students are rewarded with a special event. All students participate whether or not they receive donations. The event is a 5 station course set up at the county park. We have a Zumba station, a dunk tank station, where staff members are dunked by students, a HUGE inflatable obstacle course/slide, a relay race and an obstacle course set up by Maui Fire Department volunteers. Your child and their class participate in the stations in rotation together.
Are students awarded prizes for their efforts?
Every student will be receiving some rewards. There are also prizes for students who raise $5 or more. Prizes are also awarded to students who raise $50 or more. Then there are the grand prizes which are given to the students with the most donations. These prizes in the past have been things such as Helicopter Rides, Whale Watch Boat Tours and Samsung Galaxy Note Tablets. We also have awards for top earning classes. To qualify for prizes, the donations must be made by November 7th.
How will my donation be used?
The PTSA, the Parent Teacher Student Association, uses the donations received to fund a variety of valuable and important programs and events that make the Wailuku Elementary School experience a well rounded one.
We give discretionary funds to grade levels to use to purchase needed classroom items or provide programs for the different grade levels.
The donations also go to pay for our Creative Movement program. As one of Maui Academy of Performing Arts’ School Partnership Programs, the Creative Movement/Drama program at Wailuku Elementary engages students in active learning through the performing arts. When creativity is at the heart of learning, students flourish.
We also fund all the main events at the school. The Outdoor Cinema Night, Pumpkin Patch, Santa’s Workshop, Brenton Keith Family Night, 5th Grade Graduation, and new this year is going to be the Wally Amos Family Night and, of course, the Fun Run event itself!!
We also provide funds for the Birthday Card program, May Day, Staff Appreciation, Positive Action Program awards for the students, the Wildcat of the Month Program and our School Garden Program.
Will my child get credit for online donations for prizes, like they do with the envelopes?
YES!!! There is a required field when someone donates where a student's name is put. The donations for each student will be added to their envelope totals after the November 7th prize deadline. We will let each student know their total online donations then, however, please feel free to contact Christine Ortiz, the PTSA President, if you want to know if your child has any donations online.
All of this and more are funded by your donations. Every amount matters and will be used to make every students’ experience at Wailuku Elementary School a special and memorable one.
