Waiting for Charlie to Come Home

THANK YOU AGAIN!

EVENT DATE Aug 16, 2016
Last Tuesday, I helped a woman move out of the unfinished garage conversion room. She and her two young children (age 3 and 7) had been living in her ex in-laws' back house (I use that term loosely to describe four uninsulated plywood walls and a cement floor to describe where she and her children had been squatting). Her ex-husband (who still lives in the property with his parents) physically assaulted her. Bravely, (let's call her "Charlie") Charlie called the police, and her ex (who is twice her size) was taken into custody. To add insult to (literal) injury, her in-laws now blame Charlie for her former partner's actions. (Classic victim blaming). Now, after contacting several domestic violence shelters and being turned down due to being employed, Charlie and her kids are forced to live in a motel (which is expensive and makes saving money for an apartment difficult if not impossible to raise). This is where YOU and I come in. I'm donating my birthday to help raise enough money to help Charlie and her kids move into a more permanent home. Charlie doesn't know I'm doing this, but when I last communicated with her, she pled, "I just need a month or two (of help) so I can support my kids." This woman is fiercely independent, and she just needs a little help. Let's give Charlie and her kids the help they need.
