Last Stand. Only YOU can help us reach our goal!
November 29, 2016

This is our last week of fundraising. We haven't even come close to our goal. This is our last stand! Help us reach $25,000.00.  The holidays See More

THE STORY:

We are raising awareness of the challenges that individuals and families dealing with Cerebral Palsy face daily. A simple activity like getting up from a seat and walking is a great challenge for someone with CP. That's why we want to INCITE positive change in how we see individuals with "disABILITY". We want to close the GAP for accessibility and inclusion for individuals with physical challenges. Alexandra Roy was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy months after she was born. At the age of 3, we were told she would never walk, or stand or sit on a regular seat. She needed extensive support to keep her body upright: waist, chest and head straps were needed. This where our journey began - Alex wanted to walk, and I (her mother) wanted to help her. Through a combination of traditional and alternative therapies, we are making that dream come true! Alex will be walking 2,500 steps everyday for one week, (October 3 - 7) to show that even the impossible is possible with hard work and dedication. October 5 is World Cerebral Palsy Day, but the challenges we face continue after that day is over, that is why we chose to walk before, during and after World CP Day. Our goal is to raise $25,000 for recreational activities, therapies and respite, which is often very difficult for families to access. We also want to raise awareness of a new charitable organization in the works, that will continue the fundraising and awareness efforts for these families - Inciteful Minds, dedicated to spreading awareness of personal, financial and supportive challenges that families face. Help us spread the word and give back to the organizations that have helped us through our journey. We are raising funds for REVIVO Neurology Clinic (for functional/ recreational therapeutic camps), Easter Seals (Overnight summer camps) and Holland-Bloorview Children's Hospital (Respite, Rehabilitation & Therapy). We are thankful for support of staff and students of Alexander Mackenzie High School, where the walk is taking place. The school offered their front foyer for Alex to do her walk as it offers a smooth and consistent surface. We hope to make this an annual event. As Alex improves her walking skills, we will increase the number of steps to reach 10,000 steps each day and increasing the length of time to a full month. Donate to help us spread awareness for Cerebral Palsy and the daily living challenges, while helping us give back to the organizations that have helped us through our journey.
