We just met our goal!!!!
August 04, 2016
EVENT DATE: Jul 31, 2016
Our sweet Annaleah (AKA Anna or Weah per her 4 year old sister) is 2 1/2 years old and has suffered from being ill and in pain most of her life due to various ailments, classic food allergies and FPIES. She suffered two acute FPIES reactions and multiple chronic to multiple foods. As a result of being so ill most of her life, she has suffered from numerous secondary issues like underdeveloped mouth action and significant oral and feeding aversions. She was treated by Beaumont's Occupational Therapy for feeding for a year before being admitted to the Intensive Feeding Program at Helen DeVos Children's hospital in Grand Rapids. Annaleah and her dad lived in Grand Rapids for 2 months while she received treatment. This separated them us (me and our other daughter, Kennedy). It was a very stressful time but highly worthwhile and was a great success! Annaleah now can chew and swallow food. We do low risk food trials with her nearly every weekend. Her dad is a fabulous cook and has learned all sorts of tips and tricks to safely cook for her. She has expanded her diet from 1 safe food at 1 1/2 years old to 23 safes! She continues to thrive on a specialty medical grade hypoallergenic formula but we celebrate the great progress she has made!
We have learned that FPIES not only affects the child but all aspects of our family, daily life and choices. We are grateful for a strong network of support!
In 2016, we planned the first FPIES support group meet up in South East Michigan and attended the FPIES Education conference in Chicago. It was a great success! We met some wonderful FPIES families and made some great new friends.
This event is to support the non profit International FPIES Association (I-FPIES) so more research can be done and get us closer to diagnostic testing and a cure for FPIES! We will Walk for Weah and all FPIES children. All donations benefit I-FPIES.
