I've been an animal lover and advocate since I can remember, but never had the opportunity to help with the cause as much as I do now working at the SPCA Albrecht Center for Animal Welfare. I feel lucky and proud to be part of such a fantastic organization.
On September 21st, teams of animal lovers will be walking in the Twilight Walk for Animals to raise money and kick off the SPCA's Lana-Paw-looza event. As a staff member, I'll be helping work the event, so I don't know if I'll be able to participate in the walk itself, but I still would like to raise money, in memory of my sweet Bailey who left this world two years ago after giving over 12 years of love to my mom and me. Also in memory of other pets passed on: our cat Gracie who decided to adopt us after we had the vet fix up his dog attack injuries, our very loud bird Pat, another cat Felix, and my childhood cat Rocky.
And last but certainly not least, I want to raise funds in memory of a woman I so wish I had known better when she was in this world. The namesake of this event, Lana Dyer was one of our best and brightest volunteers. In May of this year, she passed away far too suddenly and far too young. Lana was young, healthy, happy and always ready to help. She was very passionate about animal welfare, but balanced that passion with a strong sense of realism and complete understanding of our mission. We were truly lucky to have Lana on our team for the short time that we did.
Please contribute whatever amount you can and help me honor my pets that have passed on, help support the great work that the SPCA Albrecht Center does, and help us ensure that “Lana’s Love Lives”. Thank you.
Oh - and come out to Lana-Paw-looza on Sept. 21st for some good food, drinks, live music and fun! See details at www.LetLoveLive.org
