BENEFITING: American Diabetes Association, Inc.
EVENT DATE: Oct 05, 2013
Diabetes has always been in my family. It has affected every generation through my mother's side up to me. But it was always something to worry about in the future, you know, when you get old. As a child, teen, young adult, I really didn't think too much about it. I knew how serious it was, but always seemed so far away.
Then my mother was diagnosed and my family doctor really made me take a hard look at my life and what was down the road for me. I also had a very dear friend, pretty much was my best friend in life. He was battling diabetes. I saw how it affected his life, physically and emotionally. How it rippled out and touched the lives of everyone he was close to. Diabetes became much more than a disease that the old or the young get. It was touching my mother and my best friend.
Two years ago we lost Garry. He taught me so much about how to fully live life and never to take a minute for granted. The future isn't nearly as far away as we think. Just a moment away and everything can change.
So now I am doing what I can. I am exercising, eating better and never taking a moment for granted. I am also trying to do what I can to raise money. I hope that together we can raise money for research, for education and to help the lives of those who are fighting to win against Diabetes. I hope we can step together and stop Diabetes.
