BENEFITING: The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust USA
It really all began when I snail-mailed a flyer to friends and family informing them of what I’d just seen on a PBS documentary about elephants being poached for their ivory. The date of the flyer, 1989. In 2001, during almost every turn of the page of The Camino by Shirley MacLaine, I felt a tug, a nudge, a calling to also walk this path. As the years lapsed, I felt like Hansel & Gretel, dropping crumbs of curiosity along the way, as I watched The Way with Martin Sheen, read A Million Footsteps by Boise author, Kurt Koontz then followed my friend, Dayle Ohlau’s journey, (Sept., 2014) through frequent blog postings of her pilgrimage.
The real clincher came recently, after listening to Kurt speak at our local Community Library about his experiences on the Camino. It was a done deal...and my husband of 51 years knew it. In his own timing, he’s coming around to accepting my choice to walk the path that other pilgrims have walked for well over 1,000 year:
(Gracias mi amor, for your consistent support of my inner journey.)
The following might give you a better sense of my attraction to this venture:
The Pilgrim's Guide To The Camino de Santiago by John Brierley.
“I urge you to find a spiritual purpose for taking this journey. We have a sacred contract, a divine function and reason why we came here. Pilgrimage provides an opportunity to delve deeper into that purpose and time to re-orient our lives towards its fulfilment. The Call of the Camino is being heard all around the world - the call to move beyond that which separates us and to find that common bond, that spiritual thread, which binds us together and, by extension, connects us to the Source of all that is.”
What took the commitment into upgrade status was when I heard an intense message from within: “invite others to contribute to the elephants for each mile you walk.”
YES! I’d invite others to donate to the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust:
You can donate any amount, as well as specifically $50 to adopt a baby elephant and receive data and photos as a benefactor, which I’ve done many times as gifts.
Gratitude abounds for your support in all ways. Thank you and blessings on your own Camino.
