Kimberly Smith wrote -As some of you know, I will be running the Walkway Over the Hudson's first ever Half Marathon on June 13th. This will be my second half marathon and I have began an intense 12-week training for it. I hope that some of my friends and family may be able to come out and cheer me on! I have decided that I want to run in honor of a charity. This race I will run on behalf of Sparrow's Nest. Sparrow's Nest is a non-profit that is located close to my house in Dutchess County. The charity helps to support Dutchess families who have a mother suffering from cancer. Recently, they have expanded their mission to help families with fathers who have been diagnosed with cancer as well. Sparrow's Nest mainly provides these families with home-cooked food for their families each week. This charity is extremely close to my heart after the last few months. Every donation on their behalf can be seen making a difference the same week it is made. Although the donations may not be going to research or to some big companies, it is going to my neighbors and it makes a difference for them right now. I am hoping to raise $500 for them between now and June 13th. This is my first "50 halfs in 50 states with a purpose" and I am so excited that this charity, which is based out of Dutchess County, will be ran in the same location in which it started. When I run with a purpose, I run better. When I know that I am helping to make a difference in my community regarding a cause I care so much about, it makes everything a little bit better. Please consider donating to my cause, every little bit helps! Thank you so much in advance! I truly appreciate all of your support!
