BENEFITING: Transverse Myelitis Association
EVENT DATE: Sep 20, 2015
Hello, my name is Téa Moranetz. I am a Freshman at Barrington High School. I am doing a fundraiser for the Transverse Myelitis Association (TMA). The TMA is an organization that raises money for people with rare neuro-immunological diseases. As an ongoing process they began their work over 20 years ago. This year is their 20th anniversary.
I am supporting this association because in 8th grade we had a school assignment that would help us to give back to the community. I chose the TMA because and when I was in 1-2nd grade I had one of these rare neuro-immunological diseases. It was called ADEM or Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis. The first time i went to the hospital I slipped into a coma. When I woke up I could hardly speak and had to re-learn everything. The second time, I went to the hospital I couldn't walk or even hold a spoon. I had to learn to use my muscles again and get strong. The third time, I went blind. I wear contacts or glasses now so I can read. Thankfully, I was able to get back on my feet, even with some struggles and lots of hard work. Other people are not that fortunate. They lack research on treatment options and/or cannot always afford to pay for the help they need.
Thank you for joining my team. Together we can make a difference.
