BENEFITING: Water For People
EVENT DATE: Nov 06, 2013
Every day, more than 6,000 people—many of them children—die from water-related illnesses. About 1.8 billion (1 in 4) people around the world do not have access to safe drinking water; 2.5 billion live without adequate sanitation facilities (more people have access to cell phones than toilets). Water For People, a highly rated international nonprofit based in Denver, “helps people in developing countries improve quality of life by supporting the development of locally sustainable drinking water resources, sanitation facilities, and hygiene education programs.” Rather than only donating funds, WFP works with locals in 10 developing countries to achieve long-term sustainable solutions, and monitors and evaluates all its projects for at least 10 years. “Everyone Forever” is its pledge.
In early November, five of us wanderlustful women will hoist 40-pound packs to hike the Grand Canyon from rim to rim to rim and attempt to raise $25,000 for Water For People. Our trek begins on the South Rim and will cover 45 miles and 10,560 vertical feet as we traverse over and back. The crowds will be gone, the temperatures should range from 25 to 70 degrees, and the scenery will be spectacular.
Every dollar you contribute is tax-deductible and will go directly to Water For People, as we are fully covering our expedition costs. As always, any amount will make a difference.
Thank you for considering this opportunity to join us in supporting Water For People. We feel privileged and excited to help tackle this worldwide issue.
