The mission of the Women’s Athletic Performance Foundation is to provide overall support for elite American female track & field athletes competing in the heptathlon. By providing the support necessary to continue training, it is the goal of the foundation to improve the performance of the United States at the international level of competition in the women’s heptathlon. Secondarily, the foundation seeks to connect these elite athletes with members of the community of all ages in an effort to enhance physical fitness and leadership through the avenue of sport and exercise.
It is not enough to simply pursue athletics at the highest level. The WAPF is extremely active in providing healthy programs for local youth to engage in physical activity, self-esteem building, goal setting, and the promotion of active lifestyles. Kids in our communities have the opportunity to spend time with and be mentored by world-class athletes who lead by example and demonstrate that it is a worthwhile investment of time and energy to pursue a dream.
Outlook in the United States
After college graduation, there is very little opportunity anywhere in the United States for heptathletes to be able to continue to train. As a result, the USA has not faired well at the international level of competition in relation to the number of athletes competing in the event. The WAPF is the first organization of it’s kind in the United States dedicated to providing overall support for women in this event.
