BENEFITING: UNITED WAY OF THURSTON COUNTY
More than 1,123 children and 686 adults experienced homelessness in Thurston County last winter. Half of all women and children experiencing homelessness are fleeing from domestic violence in their homes. Without help, many children and adults will spend the holiday season cold, hungry and without safe shelter.
United Way of Thurston County has partnered with SafePlace and the Family Support Center of South Sound in the spirit of #GivingTuesday, a global initiative and call-to-action to celebrate giving during the holiday season. Donations will support both agencies to help women and families suffering from the perils of homelessness, poverty and domestic violence by providing, safe shelter, food and resources.
Whether you give $10 or $100, your donation will make a big impact this holiday season providing women and families hope for a better tomorrow. Below is an example of where your donation can make a difference.
$10 - 4 daily bus passes for shelter residents
$20 - 2 packages of diapers for babies at the shelter
$25 - 2 hours of one-on-one advocacy with a trained advocate, helping domestic violence survivors and homeless families plan for their safety, access resources and create action steps
$35 – one application fee to help a mother and her children move out of the shelter and into permanent housing
$40 – Bedding set including pillows, blanket, and sheets to provide warmth for shelter residents
$50 - one day’s worth of food for all shelter residents
$75 - 2 months of children’s supplies kids, including art materials, games, and toys, so the younger shelter residents can simply play and have fun
$85 - 1 night at a motel, during times when the shelter is full
