BENEFITING: Stephen Siller Tunnel To Towers Foundation
EVENT: New York City 2015
EVENT DATE: Sep 27, 2015
Tunnel to Towers Foundation:
The mission of the Foundation is to honor the sacrifice of firefighter Stephen Siller who laid down his life to save others on September 11, 2001. We also honor our military and first responders who continue to make the supreme sacrifice of life and limb for our country.
The Reason I Run:
I can still remember watching the news with my family as the second plane hit the tower, and I have never been so scared and confused of what was going to happen in the next minutes, hours, days and months. As I was frozen with fear watching the TV, our firefighters, police and rescue workers were running to the towers to save peoples lives. This embodies the spirit of "hero", and I am honored to be part of a team of my friends and classmates that will take part and run in the "Tunnel to Towers" race this year as a tribute to the bravery of these people.
And for me this run takes on a personal note since my borther is a Police Officer for the Champign Police Department in Central Illinois. While I am very proud of his service, I am also fearful because I know the risk that he and his family take on as he puts himself into harms way when he goes to work.
So I run for the heros who serve & protect us every day, and I run in honor of my brother, and to show him that he is my personal hero.
And I am one of many in the Columbia Business School community who want to show their gratitude. We run as a team to show our combined support for all those men and women who put their lives on the line for us, and in memory of those who have shown the utmost courage and gave their lives on that day in September all those years ago. We thank you.
