Warrior Canine Connection's dogs changed my life. Their dogs saved my life, and my family. Please let me tell you my story.
On Sept 8, 2013 my M1A1 tank was destroyed by a massive IED while on a combat patrol near Sangin in Afghanistan.
When I came home, I was not the same. I was confused all the time. I couldn't speak or think clearly. I was in constant pain. And I was very, very angry.
Eventually I was transferred to Walter Reed Hospital for evaluation and treatment. There I was diagnosed with traumatic brain injury, fractured lumbar vertebrae, and PTSD.
When I learned that I was going to be medically retired, that I couldn't be a Marine anymore, I thought I was losing everything. I lost hope.
That's when I was fortunate enough to be connected with Warrior Canine Connection. WCC taught me that I could still serve, even if I wasn't a Marine.
WCC gave me the hope and courage to push through my recovery. By dedicating myself to training dogs for fellow service members, I renewed my sense of purpose. This program saved my life. It saved my family.
I'd like you to think about how common these stories of trauma are. Besides me, you probably know other service members who suffer because of the wars. Help us help them.
Help us share hope, love, and healing. Join me in bringing the power of this program to other service members who need our help. Please make a gift today, and share this fundraiser with others.
WARRIOR CANINE CONNECTION UTILIZES MISSION BASED TRAUMA RECOVERY TO HELP RECOVERING WARRIORS RECONNECT WITH LIFE, THEIR FAMILIES, THEIR COMMUNITIES, AND EACH OTHER. Warrior Canine Connection is a pioneering organization that utilizes its Mission Based Trauma Recovery (MBTR) model to empower returning combat Veterans who have sustained physical and psychological wounds while in service to our country. Based on the concept of Warriors helping Warriors, WCC’s therapeutic service dog training program is designed to mitigate symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress and Traumatic Brain Injuries, while giving recovering Service Members and Veterans a sense of purpose, help in reintegrating back into their families and communities, and a potential career path as a service dog trainer. The program also produces highly skilled Warrior-trained service dogs that will provide years of mobility and social support to Veterans with disabilities.
