BENEFITING: Pediatric Stroke Warriors
Pediatric Stroke Warriors understands firsthand the journey after stroke with a child. We believe it's vital to continue creating ways to share resources and support that provide a foundation of knowledge and hope to families.
In 2016, we launched our National Warrior Bags and Brave Box program to further build connections and support for children and their families. Nationwide, we have distributed hundreds of Warrior Bags & Brave Boxes to newly diagnosed families and children of all ages, recovering from stroke. Requests come in each week and we continue to build working relationships among Children's Hospitals with pediatric stroke centers to have these resources on hand to help support families.
About our Warrior Bag:
The Warrior Bag is a toolkit filled with useful information to assist newly diagnosed families and their child. The intention of the bag is to provide education and resources to you about what to expect and where to seek support.
Each tote includes:
The Pediatric Stroke Warriors Family Toolkit: a published guide from Pediatric Stroke Warriors intended to give families guidance on how to navigate this new journey. Included in this toolkit are terms you can use, types of specialists and therapy that may be useful based on the age of the child, stories from the heart of parents and glossary of resources and references for families.
Journal & Calendar: For ease of writing and keeping track of important notes, dates and contact information.
Portable Medical Summary Forms: A collaboration of forms to help you in putting together your child's medical care folder.
Warrior Dog: Our small plush version of a companion dog, intended to provide comfort to a child at home and at ongoing appointments.
About our Brave Box:
Our care package was born to bring a smile and hope to an impacted child in the hospital. Whether it be after recovery from stroke, ongoing testing or a surgery. We wanted to include items to empower a young child and to be personalized. The box is assembled specifically for a child based on age and interests in an effort to try and make their day a little brighter and their time in the hospital more positive.
Each box will include:
Personalized card addressed to child
Our BE BRAVE T-shirt (Child size)
Assortment of toys and items to promote play and skills in cognitive and physical development
(Items that may be included based on child’s age: Stickers, Bubbles, Coloring/activity books, Action Figures, Melissa & Doug on the Go coloring, Finger puppets, Thera putty, Kinetic Sand, Brain teasers, Water Wiggles, Texture board books, Puzzles.)
