BENEFITING: Chris Carrino Foundation for Fshd
EVENT DATE: May 21, 2016
Running in mud and jumping over fire is not "fun" to everyone. Most of the time, people find it quite strange...
But attacking the battleground for me is a metaphor for when I think about the struggles for those who suffer from FSHD (Facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy). One of those people is my amazing big brother...and a few years ago he decided to make a huge difference for all those like him. He joined forces with some equally amazing people and began making a difference with The Chris Carrino Foundation.
I am a working mother who took up a new hobby a couple of year ago when I realized it was time to take care of, me. That's when I decided to embrace my inner child. I started running through mud, up mountains, climbing high walls and jumping over fire. The exhilaration that comes from running these races makes me continue to do it, year over year....
In addition to having a very supportive husband and family, I am also blessed with a loving group of friends. They cheer me on and even started joining me for the dashes!
On Saturday, May 21st, "Warriors for FSHD" will once again be 'conquering the battlefield'. This time in Warwick, NY. It's a 5k run with 12-15 different obstacles where our strength is tested. It is a physical and mental challenge. Those who participate in these events do it for various reasons, and causes....
So this year, we are doing it for The Chris Carrino Foundation. Our only hope is that we raise awareness, but if we can raise some funds for the foundation - even better. Take some time and visit the website, learn more about what FSHD is and how it impacts those affected and those who love them. For now, if you can donate a little or a lot for the cause as we prepare for the dash, we appreciate it and so does the foundation. Thank you in advance!
