BENEFITING: LIVING Ministry Incorporated
A year ago Chris had no friends, no family, and no purpose in life. In his own words, dying would have been a way to improve his tragic experience. Having just lost his grandmother, mother, and father in consecutive years, Chris found himself homeless, both literally and figuratively. Like so many, Chris could be found wandering the streets of Pittsburgh, aimlessly searching for something to do and someone who cared. That is where we came in. Just one year later, Chris’s life looks completely different. He is confident, content, and has a firm sense of his purpose in life. Chris is one month from graduating from our discipleship program and is actively engaged in looking for work (he has two job interviews next week) and finds himself encouraging others with the message of hope that he received from us. While Chris is just one person, he is one person whose life has been transformed. He has successfully managed to escape the firm grip of homelessness. Tom, the reason I’m writing you is to invite you to join L.I.V.I.N.G. Ministry as we continue to reach out to homeless individuals like Chris. On September 6th, we will be holding our annual carwash fundraiser and we are looking for generous community partners like you to be contributing sponsors. L.I.V.I.N.G. Ministry (love initiated ventures investing in neglected groups) is one Pittsburgh’s leading organizations addressing poverty through a strategy that combines building personal relationships, meeting basic needs, offering tools for self-sufficiency, and providing opportunities for community involvement. In 12 years of ministry, we have effectively reached over 10,000 homeless individuals on a face-to-face basis. At L.I.V.I.N.G. Ministry, our desire is not just to take people out of the streets, but take the street out of people. Everyone wants to 'fix' the problems of the homeless, but not many people are dealing with the root issues. We at L.I.V.I.N.G. Ministry are called to address the root causes of the homeless by engaging in Christian discipleship, mentoring, counseling, and relational support. Experience and observation has taught the ministry that the current methods of serving the homeless are not the most effective. Treating the homeless as 'clients' just builds entitlement, not empowerment. Focusing on spiritual, emotional and relational needs builds a solid foundation for real and sustainable change in the life of a homeless man or woman. Using our methods of outreach, we have seen everything transform within a person. From restored family relationships, to new outlooks on work and service, amazing things are happening in the lives of the homeless here in Pittsburgh. This year’s carwash will be Saturday, September 6th and will be at (2) locations (Busy Beaver in Castle Shannon and Advance Auto Parts in Bellevue). Our plan is to run the event as a carwash-a-thon where people sponsor a certain amount for every car that we wash. To make the event the most successful for the ministry, we are looking for local businesses to sponsor the carwash. By doing this, the ministry will be able to get the funding that we need to expand our programming and serve even more people like Chris. L.I.V.I.N.G. Ministry would be ecstatic if you would join us by being a sponsor for this year’s carwash. I have enclosed a document that explains at what levels you could become a sponsor. With each level, you would get a certain amount of marketing opportunities and recognition.
