BENEFITING: Yachad, Inc.
Ms. T was born and raised in Washington, DC. When her children were younger, the family lived in public housing. Ms. T always told her children that she planned to go back to school, better herself, get a college degree, buy a home, and move out of poverty. Four years ago, Ms. T purchased her first home in the Congress Heights neighborhood. Ms. T is proud of her children. Her oldest daughter attends Bowie State and her youngest daughter just received a full scholarship to Rochester College in New York. Ms. T loves that she has a backyard with plenty of room for their dog to play. She also loves that her house is close to her job at the National Children Center’s Early Learning Center and that she is no longer a renter.
Like many first-time home buyers, Ms. T did not know that she should have her home inspected before purchasing. Ms. T was told that the house had been recently rehabbed. After moving in, she discovered that the renovators had cut corners. Yachad will bring Ms. T's electrical system up to code and complete some other health and safety repairs.
YACHAD will be working with the family, volunteers and trades people to address safety and health issues, including:
- Fix electrical issues
- Fix plumbing leaks
- Repair walls & ceilings
- Paint thoughout the home
