I wasn't planning to raise money for running the New York Marathon. In fact, this being my first marathon, I was even afraid to tell too many people. There are a lot of doubts when you train for 26.2 miles. It's a selfish goal, one that took up a lot of my time and left little for me to spend with family and friends. But I'm a better person because of this journey. I am energized and certain that I will finish the marathon. Now I want to make sure that this confidence does some good. I am blessed to have so much, and I need to share.
My brother and his family, my parents, as well as friends in the NY & NJ area have been deeply affected by the effects of Hurricane Sandy. They have no power and some have lost even more. Therefore if this marathon is going to happen (regardless of whether it's in good taste or not), I want to make sure that I contribute the most I can to the efforts to bring shelter, food, safety to those have been hardest hit.
Please consider joining me in making a donation to the American Red Cross to help our neighbors south of us. As I run the marathon, I will be thinking of the wonderful support that my family and friends have given me over the past 4 months and how we made a small difference together.
